This month’s featured artist at Studio 107 is Iris Gillispie of In Frame Visual Arts Magazine. In Frame is a collage of Iris’s many years as an executor and connoisseur of media art forms. She uses her space at Studio 107 to create her magazine and as a studio for her photography and other media.
In celebration of her month as featured artist, Iris will host a Mixed Media Art Workshop during First Friday Art Walk on March 1, 2013. Participants will create a simple design with glue and paper. There is a $5 materials charge and space is limited, so arrive early.
Studio 107 will also host a drawing for a chance to win a fabric corsage designed by Iris Gillispie. The drawing will be held at 6:30 pm and participants must be present for to win.
The holidays are just around the corner and Uptown businesses are chock full of great gifts for everyone on your list. This December, there will be two special shopping days in Uptown, offering the perfect opportunity to locally source all your holiday needs.
On December 1, Martinsville Uptown will host its annual Holiday Open House. All Uptown merchants will be open for this day-long event, featuring specials and discounts at select locations.
On December 7, over 20 Uptown merchants will role out the sales again for First Friday Art Walk. Find gifts, mens and ladies clothing, winter accessories, artisan crafted jewelry and stained glass, hand-turned wooden gifts, furniture, antiques and more.
Remember, when you shop locally what you spend here stays here. Martinsville and Henry County residents spend over $45,000,000 outside the community each year. This holiday season, every dollar you spend in MHC helps support local artisans, shop owners, Uptown employees and our economy. Learn more at www.shoplocalmhc.com.
On Halloween night, Uptown will be alive with ghosts and goblins as kids, ages 12 and under, are invited to the annual Uptown Trick or Treat. Over 20 businesses will provide treats for costumed children from 4 – 7 pm.
With safety in mind, parents can park in the Big Chair Parking lot or follow their little haunts around the loop of participating businesses, which flows down Church Street and up Main Street. Participating businesses will be identified with colorful Halloween balloons.
